Here you will find sample letters. One is for the Senators, and one is for the Representatives. They are different, so make sure you keep them straight.

If no one does anything and waits for everyone else to do something… then nothing will happen!

To save you time, and to make things easier for you to get involved we have developed a “sample letter” that you can simply copy/paste into you email. Feel free to modify it however you wish.

You will find the contact information for our government officials here:

Sample Letter For Senators:

Dear Senator:

Thank you for supporting Senate Bill 259 “Interscholastic Sports Open To All Students”, which was introduced on February 23, 2009 and Senate Bill 1012 “An Act To Establish The Legislative Study Committee On The Participation Of Home School Students In Classes And Extracurricular Activities At Public Schools” which was introduced in May 2009. It is my understanding that these Bills died in committee.

I wish to let you know that I support this legislation, and strongly urge you and your fellow Senators to get behind the passing of such legislation so that it may be signed into law before the 2010-2011 school year. Many home school athletes are being denied their rights, not to mentions their dreams and aspirations, in the state of North Carolina. As taxpayers we deserve the rights afforded ALL citizens.

Also, I strongly urge you to make it clear in the wording of any new Bill pertaining to this issue that “partial” or “dual enrollment” is not an option in order for home school and private school students to participate on public school sports teams. Several school districts in North Carolina currently require this, however many families have found this to be an unreasonable disruption to their home schooling efforts and the academic progression of the athlete.

Most importantly, any new Bill pertaining to this issue must never contain any wording that would ever jeopardize any of the freedoms, rights and privileges currently enjoyed by the home schooling community of North Carolina.

Thank you for your continued support. If I can help in any way please let me know.

Sincerely,

(your name and contact information here)

Sample Letter For Representatives:

Dear Representative:

Thank you for supporting House Bill 1116 “An Act To Permit Home Schooled Students To Participate In Interscholastic Sports” and House Bill 1013 “Permitting Participation in Public School Athletics Activities”, which were introduced on April, 2009. It is my understanding that these Bills died in committee.

I wish to let you know that I support this legislation, and strongly urge you and your fellow Representatives to get behind the passing of such legislation so that it may be signed into law before the 2010-2011 school year.

The rights of ALL home school families must be protected.

Thank you for your continued support. If I can help in any way please let me know.

Sincerely,
